about
I guess if I had to describe this song I would say that it's a journey through the death of youthful idealism into despair and then out again into a kind of peaceful acceptance that is hopefully a stepping stone on the way to deeper wisdom. Or something like that.
lyrics
I'm older now
Than I ever thought I'd be
When I was proud
Of how much my heart could bleed
I thought for sure I'd die a martyr
To some great noble cause
Maybe strung up for a rebel
Disobeying unjust laws, but I'm still here
Though I'm not sure why
'Cause it don't seem
Like I've won the fight
There was that one time
I was low as I could be
I thought for sure
It'd be the death of me
The thought of wandering into traffic
Didn't scare me like it should've done
But it was only for a moment
And now the feeling's gone, and I'm still here
And it ain't so bad
I guess it's true
All things must pass
If you're older too
Then you feel the same I bet
All the stuff that didn't kill you hasn't made you stronger yet
If you can hold on for a moment
Baby that's enough
Soon the days all roll together
And you'll find it ain't so tough, and you're still here
You're still alive
Sometimes victory
Is just Surviving
